hornpipes 1 - a page from our repertoire
These are in fact the first set of tunes we ever worked on.

The notes and chords are the barest of bones for the sound generated by any band. Often the simplest of melodies gives space for the greatest amount of improvisation, which is at the heart of traditional music-making. "Never play the tune the same way twice" is good advice. It becomes more difficult to do this effectively when the band is thirty strong. If you are not careful the music can become very confused!

"Dress" is the cue we use to describe in brief the variations that we have devised for a tune. Individual players may have more specific reminders for their own parts within the arrangement.
